Energy concerns grow as new Minister opposes wind farm energy reports NaturePower.lv

(USGovernment-News.Com, September 09, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - Concerns have been raised over Britain’s energy policy after a minister who is well respected was axed in favour of one who has voiced his opposition to the wind farms and also lacks experience in the sector.

Incumbent Minister Tory Jon Hayes has been quoted as saying that wind farms are a “terrible intrusion” and “renewable energy needs to pass the twin tests of environmental and economic sustainability and wind power fails on both counts”.

Charles Hendry, who has held the energy brief for four years has described wind power as an integral and vital source of power. Hendry was replaced by Tory Jon Hayes in Tuesday’s reshuffle.

The switch has given signs that the senior conservatives are not happy with the green policies of the energy department. The energy department is being headed by Lib-Dem Ed Davey.

Mr. Hendry was working on finalising the Energy Bill, which is a complex piece of legislation that was about to be taken through to the commons by him.

Renewable Energy Association chief, Gaynor Hartnell, said Mr. Hendry’s exit was “a surprise and a disappointment” and Mr. Hayes’ comments “don’t bode well.”

David Smith of the Energy Networks Association said Mr. Hendry’s “vast knowledge and experience” had delivered a valuable, balanced approach. "He leaves very big shoes to be filled and will be missed," he added.

Doug Parr of Greenpeace commented that you cannot be an energy minister while at the same time oppose wind power, which is an essential part of energy production.

Mr. Hayes has declined to comment any further regarding his own views on the wind farm energy. He did however say that reliance on only one technology is not very good for the country and other alternatives should also be looked into.

Analysts at the RBC Capital Markets have said that Mr. Hayes has had limited experience of the energy policy and that his views do not have the required credibility.
