Avionn Home Health Care Provides Assistance to Veterans Utilizing Aid and Attendance Benefits

(USGovernment-News.Com, June 26, 2012 ) San Antonio, TX - An underutilized element of the Improved Pension program from the Department of Veteran Affairs is known as the Veterans' Aid and Attendance program. It can provide funds for home health care to veterans, surviving spouses, and other loved ones in need of regular attendance or assistance, as well as patients residing in nursing homes and care facilities.

Veterans Aid and Attendance is a monthly pension benefit which can be paid in addition to the Basic Pension benefit. Therefore, injuries or ailments requiring treatment need not have been obtained during service.

The Aid and Attendance benefits package is the third tier of the VA's Improved Pension program, in addition to the Basic Pension and Housebound benefits. It is largely designed for senior care services, however, is not limited as such. Veterans cannot be eligible to receive both the Housebound and Aid and Attendance benefits at the same time.

There are several requirements in order to qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits for home health care. First, basic VA pension requirements must be met, and then an additional level of financial qualifications and restrictions must also be met. Second, veterans must have served during an appropriate period of time, and finally, must meet certain disability requirements.

These disability qualifications include any of the following: requiring the aid of another person for daily living and activities; being bedridden; living as a patient in a nursing home for mental or physical incapacity; or being legally blind.

Benefits come in a range of monthly allotments, including up to $1,704 per month for a veteran, $1,094 per month for a surviving spouse, $2,020 per month for a veteran with a spouse and $1,388 for a veteran with a sick spouse.

Before signing up for any home health care services, it is important to ensure eligibility. This can be done by contacting the VA directly at their toll free number 1-800-827-1000, or visiting their website, eBenefits.VA.gov.
