Assembly District 19 Race Features Modern Tools, Traditional Issues

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 18, 2012 ) Las Vegas, NV -- Extending 100 miles from Boulder City to Mesquite, Nevada Assembly District 19 is one of the largest in the state – and home to one of the most compelling legislative races of 2012.

The district previously covered the area around Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas, but redistricting following the 2010 census drew new borders that hug Lake Mead and include the far eastern portion of the Las Vegas metropolitan area up through the rural areas of northern Clark County.

“The geography of the district poses challenges and opportunities,” said businessman Felipe Rodriguez, who is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination in the district. “The distances involved mean we need to be extremely thoughtful in how we campaign, but today’s technologies – and a new set of tires on my car – allow us to hear from constituents from throughout the district.”

Rodriguez, who is a top executive at a Las Vegas resort property, said his travels, which included a recent campaign stop at the Clark County Fair in Logandale, taught him that the people of District 19 share common concerns despite the miles that separate them.

“The hope that our children have better educational and economic opportunities is not something unique to those who live in the city or those who are from the country,” he said. “In fact, I heard from both residents of the older areas of Henderson, which is part of District 19, and constituents in northern Clark County that they often feel neglected by their elected officials.

“That is something that would change if I have the privilege of serving the people of District 19, and the only way to be an effective legislator is through effective communication.”

Rodriguez plans to employ the latest communication tools along with more traditional campaigning throughout the district. Those who want to find out more about him or ask questions can find him on Facebook at http://facebook.com/felipe4assembly or Twitter @felipe4assembly.

The need to run a technologically savvy operation prompted Rodriguez to hire former IT executive and strategic political campaign advisor Jay Matos as a consultant to the campaign.

“We want Felipe to continue to engage with his constituents every single day; they deserve nothing less,” said Matos, who has ran winning state and municipal campaigns, including those of Las Vegas Councilman Ricki Barlow, Assemblyman Steven Brooks, and State Board of Education President Stavan Corbett.
