DUI Attorneys in Phoenix Warn of Increased Patrols

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 04, 2012 ) Phoenix, AZ -- DUI Attorneys in Phoenix are warning residents that the police will be on high alert this weekend. Local and nationwide sporting events give the officers every reason to be more vigilant.

Drivers need to be aware that the police can pull a driver over for a minimal traffic violation, even if their real intent is to conduct a DUI investigation. DUI Attorney Nick Alcock states, "We see a huge spike in DUI arrests when the police conduct special task forces. The reason for this is due to the fact that the police engage in saturation patrols. A minor violation that might be overlooked on a normal weekend turns into a DUI traffic stop during a task force night."

To their credit, police agencies are doing what they can to notify the public about their actions. Near the Phoenix Open golf tournament the Scottsdale Police Department has a number of police vehicles with activated flashing lights. Officers were on hand on Thursday administering portable breath tests to fans leaving the golf course. These fans weren't under arrest, they simply were able to see what their breath alcohol level was before heading to the parking lot.

Says Alcock, "I think that community initiatives where police officers can speak with the public before they get behind the wheel are very important. It's great that people can ask questions and learn more about DUI before they get behind the wheel."

So this weekend, be aware of the fact that there will be hundreds of thousands attending an event in North Scottsdale where millions of alcoholic beverages will be served. The police are on notice and will be on the lookout for any traffic violation that will enable them to conduct a traffic stop.

If stopped for DUI, consider DUI lawyer Alcock's advice. He says, "Cooperate and have your license and paperwork ready to hand over to the officer. But keep in mind that you have the right to refuse both field sobriety tests and the right to refuse to answer questions. When in doubt, ask to call DUI attorneys ."
