Casey Anthony Civil Case: Motion to Compel Posted Online

(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 12, 2011 ) Orlando, Florida – Morgan and Morgan is announcing that the motion to compel Casey Anthony to answer deposition questions has been posted to their website. During an October deposition taken in a civil defamation case against her, Anthony pleaded the Fifth Amendment dozens of times. This new motion argues that Anthony should answer at least some of these questions because there is no appeal pending that would subject her to further incrimination or punishment. Last month, videoconferencing was used to question Anthony, whose exact location at the time of the deposition remains undisclosed. Attorney John Morgan posed numerous questions to Anthony, including those relating to the disappearance of her daughter, as well as her link to Zenaida Gonzalez and Sawgrass apartments, many of which went unanswered. Speaking on AnthonyÂ’s behalf, her attorney Charles Greene repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment, which protects witnesses against self-incrimination.

The defamation lawsuit claims that Gonzalez was unable to find work and was ostracized as a result of false accusations made by Anthony. When the child went missing in June 2008, Anthony told authorities that her daughter was in the custody of a woman by the name of Zenaida Gonzalez, a babysitter whom she referred to as “Zanny the Nanny.” Upon questioning Gonzalez of Kissimmee, who maintains that she never meet the Anthonys, investigators found that she had nothing to do with the case. The nanny whom Anthony called “Zanny” was never located.

The Gonzalez v. Anthony defamation suit, which seeks damages suffered by Gonzalez as a result of the false accusations, was put on hold until the conclusion of the criminal trial, which acquitted Anthony of murdering her daughter.
