Police Investigate Triple Murder Scene, Overlook Bloody Knife On Floor

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 07, 2011 ) Atlanta, GA -- Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Rhonda Cook found a bloody knife on Monday at a home near Lithonia where three people were murdered, just right after Ga. police have finished investigating the crime scene.

Cook stated that she had just purposefully gone to the house to interview people about the same murder case and found the sharp blade under a chair in the porch, surrounded by shards of glass that scattered from the broken window and a screen. "There was glass all around the porch, and the knife was laying in the middle of the glass," the reporter the reporter specifically stated.

Cook, who has been a reporter since 1978, didn't touch the knife and instead called her editor.

Mekka Parish, DeKalb County police spokeswoman, said that last Sunday, the same day the killings were done, the police have already found a knife that they believed to be the primary weapon based on the "preliminary investigation, interviews and statements from the suspect."

However, after Cook found the second knife Monday morning, Parish said, "There is no question that this additional evidence should have been collected when the crime scene was processed. The department will look into this oversight and take appropriate action."

A mother, a daughter and a son—both her children—were stabbed to death by 21-year-old Eugene Quatron McCoy. McCoy also severely injured a teenage girl who was able to survive the attack and call the police Sunday night. McCoy was charged of the crime and was arrested. The name of her attorney is not known at this time.

The police later confirmed that the mother and the children were McCoy's own mother, brother, and sisters. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
