LegalView Announces New Recall from General Motors

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 02, 2011 ) DETROIT - LegalView, a leading online legal resource, has updated its auto accident portal regarding a recall that was recently announced by General Motors (GM).

Earlier this month, GM announced that it would recall seatbelts in the 2011 models of the following SUV crossover vehicles: the Chevrolet Equinox, the GMC Terrain and the Cadillac SRX. GM says that its dealers will be reinstalling 100,000 seatbelt buckles. The recalled was issued after researchers found that the seatbelts failed after secondary impact.

Secondary impact is the impact that occurs after the initial impact during a car crash. For example, when a car hits another car this is the initial impact; the secondary impact is the impact with which to passenger receives. The seatbelts in this recall may fracture and separate during a crash, causing the secondary impact to be worse than if the seatbelts work properly.

This recall came before two other GM recalls: 1,262 GM vehicles which include the 2011 Cadillac Escalade EXTs, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado LD and GMC Sierra LDs, were recalled due to rear axle cross pins that could fracture and become displaced causing the rear axle to lock. Additionally, 95,927 Cadillac CTS manufactured between 2005 and 2007 were recalled due to a flaw in the passenger sensing system mat that may cause the front passenger air bag to not deploy during a crash.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, car accidents are the leading cause of death of people between the age of 5-34. Adult seatbelts are the single most effective way to save lives and reduce injuries during a car accident. The percentage of adults who always wear their seatbelts increased from 80 percent to 85 percent between 2002 and 2008. However, only one in seven adults do not wear their seatbelts on every trip.

Primary enforcement seatbelt laws make a big difference as to whether or not people buckle-up. Primary enforcement simply means that a police officer has the right to pull someone over and issue a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. Secondary enforcement seatbelt laws are laws that allow a police officer to issue someone a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt after pulling them over for another offense.

Individuals who are involved in automobile accidents often seek counsel from an attorney; car accidents often occur when the driver at fault has inadequate car insurance and is unable to pay for the physical damage to the car or any medical bills associated with the accident. LegalView offers individuals and their families resources about how to find a potential automobile accident attorney. LegalView also offers information about the possible long-term financial, physical and emotional effects of being in a car crash.

Not only does LegalView offer information about personal injury lawyers, but it also provides information about mesothelioma lung cancer.
