Cholesterol Drug Zocor (80 mg) Linked to Rhabdomyolysis, Warns Class Action.org

(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 25, 2010 ) New York, NY - The attorneys at Class Action.org are currently investigating claims from patients who were diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis after taking the 80mg dosage of Zocor, a cholesterol-lowering medication. In March 2010, the FDA warned consumers about an increased risk of rhabdomyolysis in patients taking the highest approved dosage of Zocor. The FDA also stated that patients taking the 80mg dosage of the generic simvastatin or Vytorin 10/80, a combination drug containing Zocor, are at risk for this Zocor side effect.

Rhabdomyolysis is a serious muscle condition condition that is characterized by the rapid destruction of skeletal muscle. Also known as “rhabdo,” this serious Zocor side effect results in the release of muscle fiber contents into the bloodstream. Rhabdomyolysis typically produces the following symptoms: abnormal urine color; muscle weakness; general weakness; and tenderness and stiffness of the muscles. In serious cases, rhabdomyolysis can lead to kidney damage, kidney failure and death.

Manufactured by Merck, Zocor is a prescription medication that works by blocking the production of cholesterol in the body. Although Zocor has been linked to a less severe form of muscle injury known as myopathy, the class action attorneys at Class Action.org are currently investigating claims of rhabdomyolysis, a more serious muscle condition linked to the highest approved dosage of the cholesterol-lowering drug. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis after taking Zocor (80mg), simvastatin (80mg), or Vytorin 10/80, visit http://www.classaction.org/zocor.html to complete the Free Case Review form to find out if you are eligible for a Zocor class action lawsuit.
