Pharmacy Held Up As Man Demands Drugs, Drug Rehab Newark Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, April 24, 2016 ) Newark, NJ -- As reported by WDEL, a Newark Rite-Aid was robbed at gunpoint by a man described as a white male in his late 30s to mid-40s, between 5'10" and 6'2" wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans, grey shirt, and a dark-colored hat. The robber demanded the pharmacist on duty provide him with prescription drugs, which are often sold on the street market and abused by people without a medical need for the drugs. Prescription drug abuse and overdoses have been on the rise over recent years, prompting a call for stricter regulations and non-addictive alternatives. Police are investigating the incident and requesting anyone with any information contact Delaware State Police at (302) 365-8655 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) TIP- 3333.

By providing addiction treatment in Newark for people who struggle with prescription drug abuse and other substance abuse disorders, Drug Rehab Newark understand the real and potentially lethal consequences of prescription drug abuse. Because of this, Drug Rehab Newark stands by the attempts of the Delaware Police Department in removing these dangerous substance from the streets, as they have a potential to spread across the country.

A representative of Drug Rehab Newark comments,
"This incident is a testament to the silent prescription drug abuse epidemic sweeping the nation. Addiction and desperation lead to dangerous situations such as the one unfortunately faced by this pharmacist; when the mind is controlled by an overwhelming need to use an illicit substance or misuse prescription medication, lines and boundaries are crossed which we would never imagine crossing before. Thankfully, this situation ended without any needless loss of life, but it has understandably shaken the pharmacist's sense of safety and security in the workplace. While a crime has definitely been committed here, it is important that we understand the likely culprit is a disease, not the individual responsible."
