Delray Beach Police Combat Heroin Overdoses with Naloxone, West Palm Beach Drug Rehab Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, March 18, 2016 ) West Palm Beach, FL -- The Sun-Sentinel reports that, in response to the recent spike in heroin overdoses in Florida, Delray Beach police supervisors are now armed and trained to use Naloxone to reverse the effects of opiate overdose. In the first two months of 2016, Delray Beach has experienced 41 overdoses caused by heroin use, where in the same timeframe of 2015 only two were reported. The sudden increase has been attributed to two factors: the decline in Flakka availability due to new regulations in China, and the lethal addition of Fentanyl which is sometimes added to heroin without the user's knowledge.

By using funds granted to the police department to properly train supervisors in the administration of Naloxone and public education efforts, Delray Beach police are working to save lives and end the overdose epidemic plaguing South Florida.

West Palm Beach Drug Rehab commends the efforts of the Delray Beach Police Department to end the fatal trend of heroin overdoses in their jurisdiction. As a provider of heroin rehab in West Palm Beach, they understand how difficult it can be to combat this miasmatic disorder. Tools like Naloxone and other medications which aid in the survival of an overdose victim are more than life-saving; they provide hope for a better, brighter, addiction-free tomorrow.

A representative of West Palm Beach Drug Rehab comments,

"Naloxone has proven to be a defining factor in shifting the tides in the battle against substance abuse. Given it's ability to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses and it's proven record of reducing fatal overdoses in other areas of the country, bring Naloxone to police departments in South Florida seems to be the best course of action. While it definitely doesn't provide a permanent solution, being able to counter potentially deadly overdoses is definitely a step in the right direction. We hope that more departments in Florida and across the country adopt Naloxone into their budgets and training programs."
