Boston Plans Safe Zone for Heroin Users, Drug and Alcohol Rehab Boston Responds

(USGovernment-News.Com, March 18, 2016 ) Boston, MA -- According to The Atlantic, Boston's "Methadone Mile" will feature a room with the specific purpose of allowing people under the influence of heroin to safely ride out the effects under the supervision of a trained nurse without fearing legal ramifications. The idea was constructed amid an increase in heroin overdose deaths across the country- statistically about four people die in Massachusetts each day due to overdose. Jessie Gaeta, the chief medical officer of the Boston Health Care for Homeless Program, noted that several countries around the world offer safe injection sites, but states that his room will not allow the use of drugs, only offer medical observation in an effort to reduce the risk of overdose. Staff members of the safe room would also encourage users to seek treatment for addiction.

Like other facilities offering heroin rehab in Boston, Drug and Alcohol Rehab Boston supports all efforts to reduce the damage this highly addictive and lethal substance has caused in Boston and across the country. Though the establishment of facilities such as the one detailed above may be controversial, as a provider of heroin rehab in Boston, Drug and Alcohol Rehab Boston is intimately aware that the potential for lost life is enough to encourage testing out this solution.

A representative of Drug and Alcohol Rehab Boston comments,

"In times like this where we are seeing a drastic increase in overdose deaths throughout the U.S., it's time to think outside of the box regarding solutions. While of course we do not want to encourage people to use heroin, providing a safety measure beyond hoping everything turns out okay is enough reason to establish this 'safe room.' Establishing connections with addiction treatment facilities such as Drug and Alcohol Rehab Boston can help get people off of the streets and into safe places where they can re-establish a sober, healthy way of life."
