The new initiative would treat cases of overdose deaths as murders, with the drug provider as the killer. With opioid overdoses increasing across the country, and in New Hampshire in particular, state officials and law enforcement authorities are attempting to make those responsible for the supply of drugs such as heroin and fentanyl culpable to second degree murder. Supporters believe this will be an effective means of reducing drug dealing while opponents claim it is nothing more than scare tactics which will not effectively reduce the overdose epidemic in New Hampshire.
