Governor Christie Has Negotiated For Discounted Heroin Overdose Drugs, Drug Rehab Newark Comments

(USGovernment-News.Com, June 22, 2015 ) Newark, NJ -- According to Huffington Post, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says he completed a deal to purchase naloxone, an opioid antagonist, at a 20 percent discount from Amphastar.

With the price of naloxone doubling after going public last year, many public health advocates became concerned about the drug not being affordable. Although the company claims that the price rose due to the rising costs of raw materials, energy, and labor, they negotiated a deal with New Jersey. Amphastar will refund the state of New Jersey $6 per dose of naloxone sold to qualifying agencies, the state will be responsible for distributing these rates to the groups. Amphastar has also made this deal with the state of Ohio and New York, according to The Associated Press.

Governor Christie has been a long standing advocate for treating addiction. Last year he announced a statewide expansion of a naloxone program dedicated to fighting heroin addiction, in which he also declared the war on drugs an "abject failure." he is a firm believer that addicts should be treated at an addiction treatment center, rather than being arrested.

"We have tried for 40-plus years for a war on drugs that is wide and broad," stated Christie during an appearance at a form last year, "and it hasn't worked. It hasn't worked. What works is giving those people -- nonviolent drug offenders, addicts -- the ability to be able to get the tools they need to be able to deal with this disease. I doubt that there is a person in this room who hasn't had the problem of drug and alcohol addiction touch their family or neighbors."

Since Governor Christie's expansion of the naloxone program, numerous lives have been saved. Police officers and EMT's throughout the state of New Jersey are trained and readily prepared to administer naloxone to overdose victims.

A medical associate from Drug Rehab Newark comments "I completely agree with Governor Christie that addicts need to be treated, not imprisoned. I admire his efforts to help raise awareness about the heroin epidemic in New Jersey, while also creating programs to help save lives from addiction. I am a firm believer that over time, with programs and leaders like Governor Christie in place that the drug epidemic in New Jersey will significantly decline. I am hopeful that more addicts will feel compelled to seek addiction treatment. We open our doors to anyone in need of addiction treatment in Newark, nj. If you or a loved one are suffering from a drug use problem, seek help today - it could help save your life."
