Opening accreditation for confirmation of charges hearing in the case of The Prosecutor v. Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo

Please be reminded that the confirmation of charges hearing in the case of The Prosecutor v. Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo will take place from 12 to 15 January 2009. Accreditation for journalists, NGOs and the diplomatic corps will be open until 15.00, Thursday, 8 January 2009 (The Hague local time).


The confirmation hearing is a public hearing held in the presence of the Prosecutor, the person charged, as well as his counsel, and the legal representatives of the victims.

Practical information
Journalists

All journalists wishing to cover the hearing are requested to submit an official letter of assignment with the ICC accreditation form to the following email address: PublicAffairs.Unit@icc-cpi.int or to by fax to +31 (0)70 515-8567. Please note that journalists with permanent accreditation with the ICC or members of the AJICC do not have to submit the accreditation form or letter, but are kindly requested to confirm via email their attendance at the public hearing.

All journalists are kindly requested to indicate the dates that they wish to attend the hearings.

All journalists must present a passport or valid ID with a photo at the entrance of the Court.

Diplomatic corps and NGOs

Members of the diplomatic corps and NGOs who wish to attend the hearing are kindly requested to confirm their attendance via email to PublicAffairs.Unit@icc-cpi.int, indicating the dates on which they wish to attend.

Pictures
Filming or photography is strictly prohibited inside the Court building. However, Pre-Trial Chamber III will issue a decision shortly regarding permission for accredited photographers to take pictures for 1 minute before the proceedings begin. Further information on this issue will follow shortly.

Video stream
Courtroom proceedings can be followed on the ICC website at www.icc-cpi.int.

Audio and visual summaries

The Public Information and Documentation Section will provide video summaries (with audio – 1 channel – floor – original language from the courtroom) audio for radio stations (1 channel - floor – original language from the courtroom) of the proceedings for download. Rushes will be available in an mpeg 4 format (video and audio) for use by television stations and news agencies and an mpeg 3 format (only audio) will be provided for radio stations on the following dates: 12, 14 and 15 January.



Digital photographs from the courtroom for print media (video resolution) will also be available on 12, 14 and 15 January.

Media Centre
For media representatives wishing to use the CourtÂ’s media facilities during the confirmation hearing, the media centre will open from 08:30 until one hour after the end of all Court proceedings. Therefore, until 19.30 on Monday 12 January, 19.00 on Tuesday 13 January, 18.00 on Wednesday 14 January and until 13.40 on Thursday 15 January.

The area can sit up to 64 people and includes plasma TV screens; a Wi-Fi internet service; cards (plug + play) for those without Wi-Fi capability in their PC or laptop; 6 computers with internet access; 7 telephones that may be used free of charge for internal calls. For external calls, journalists are advised to purchase 0800 pre-paid phone cards beforehand. Such cards are available at newsagents and train stations. Please note that phone cards cannot be obtained in the vicinity of, or at, the ICC.

Parking facilities
Parking facilities are available for media representatives at the Regulusweg and Wegastraat car-parks. Journalists attending the hearing are kindly invited to use the public entrance located on Regulusweg.
