(USGovernment-News.Com, March 04, 2015 ) Atlanta, GA -- Recently, there have been a number of motor vehicle accidents involving an elderly driver that have been reported in the media. Because of this, some people may assume that elderly drivers are unsafe to be around, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
One of these accidents happened in a Rite Aid pharmacy store when a senior male crashed his vehicle through the store’s glass walls. He later stated that he pushed down the gas pedal when he meant to brake. The store is now back open, and reps state that there no plans to press charges against the man.
In another incident, another senior male fell asleep behind the wheel, causing a collision with a motorcycle, killing both riders on the bike. The driver vocalized his condolences, has voluntarily given up his license, and states that he will no longer be driving.
The only law pertaining to senior drivers is that they must go through a vision test when they renew their license after age 62. There are also many optional courses that can be taken.
Despite these recent news reports, it should be known that younger drivers are actually 4 times more likely to crash than a senior driver.
