Possible Changes to Utah's Seat Beat Law

(USGovernment-News.Com, February 27, 2015 ) Salt Lake City, UT -- The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) recently reported an increase in car accident fatalities for 2014 compared to 2103. In 2013, there were 220 deaths from car wrecks, wereas in 2014 there were 256. This is actually the highest number of traffic fatalities that the state has had since the year 2008 (in 2008 there were 276).

One spokesman for the UDOT states, “That’s cause for major concern,” and it seems that many residents are agreeing with that statement. In fact, that could be one reason why there has been a recent push to adjust the seat belt laws in Utah.

Right now, a driver can not be pulled over simply for not wearing a seatbelt, but this may soon change. Those in favor of the change are also looking at the bigger picture of the amount of government medical insurance that is spent on car accident victims – not to mention the many lives that have been lost.
