Pedestrian Accident in Binghamton

(USGovernment-News.Com, February 26, 2015 ) Binghamton, NY -- Earlier this month in Binghamton, a 60 year old woman, while crossing Elmira St., was struck by a female driver. The victim died a couple of days later due to the injuries.

This is only one example of the many pedestrian accidents that have taken place within the city.

New York state law indicates that drivers should yield the right of way by slowing down or stopping for a pedestrian crossing the road within a crosswalk. When entering or exiting from an alleyway, building, private road or driveway, a driver must also yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian on a sidewalk.

Striking a pedestrian at a speed of over 30 miles per hour results in their injuries being more serious.

Statistics according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2011 showed that 4,432 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 69,000 were injured in traffic crashes in the United States.

Most personal injury cases are based on the doctrine of negligence. In essence, this requires every member of society to act responsibly and avoid putting others at risk.
