Black Friday: Is It Worth The Risk?

(USGovernment-News.Com, November 17, 2014 ) Atlanta, GA -- Black Friday has been televised as a day that crazed shoppers turn an experience that is supposed to be fun into something treacherous. Recognized as the “biggest shopping day of the year,” Black Friday has now inched its way into Thanksgiving, with stores opening earlier and earlier to accommodate anxious spenders. It has become a joke for many (“Thanksgiving is the new Black Friday”) but the danger that this shopping madness can tend to create is no laughing matter. Buyers and store employees alike are at risk for car accidents, cases of premises liability and not to mention being trampled on.

Attorney John Foy provides a few helpful tips to staying safe this Black Friday.

• Be on the lookout for pedestrians, especially in parking lots and areas that are surrounded by retail stores.

• Slow down. Everyone will be in a rush that day. Do not run and do not speed.

• Patience. While stuck in traffic and waiting in the long lines, hold your temper. Upsetting yourself may cloud your judgment.

• Do not text or talk while driving. While sharing word of the bargains you’ve scored, wait until your vehicle is stopped to do so.

• When possible, avoid crowded areas. Never push your way around.

• Buy online to avoid the hustle-bustle of in-store shopping.

• Walk with caution. It is advised not to use your phone while walking through parking lots. Keep your eyes peeled for oncoming vehicles or cars that are backing out.

In the past, several store employees and their customers have been injured from the negligence of careless people. Keep yourself, your family and those around you by taking note of the tips above.

If you are harmed in Atlanta, John Foy & Associates can provide you with a free consultation and legal advice.
