(USGovernment-News.Com, August 20, 2014 ) As the Crawford family as well as their attorney await the release of the Walmart video depicting the Beavercreek Walmart shooting, protestors staged a silent march on Saturday over the fatal shooting of John Crawford III the 22-year-old Cincinnati resident, was shot twice on August 5th by police officers in the Beavercreek Walmart. ABC22 News reported that a group of about 200 people marched to a field near the Beavercreek Police Department while the group’s leaders went to the department to deliver a letter that asks Beavercreek police to release the videotape. The leaders said they would continue to protest the Beavercreek Walmart shooting until there is “transparency” in the circumstances surrounding Mr. Crawford’s death. According to the Beavercreek police report of the shooting, a witness called 911 after claiming Crawford was seen waving a rifle, which was later discovered to be a BB Pellet Air Rifle. Beavercreek Police Chief Dennis Evers said police officers shot Crawford after he did not comply with the officers’ demand to drop the BB Pellet Air Rifle, which police at the time believed to be a real weapon. Crawford’s fiancée, however, told the Dayton Daily News that he was speaking to her on his cell phone before the shooting and he told her he was where the toy guns were in the toy section of Walmart. She said he told police that the gun was not real. According to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Crawford was holding a MK-177 (.177 caliber) BB/Pellet Rifle at the time he was shot. This gun is called a “variable pump air rifle.” Attorney General Mike Dewine’s office was asked by the Beavercreek Police Department to investigate the shooting. Montgomery County Coroner’s Office report said Crawford died from a gunshot wound to the torso and listed his cause of death as a homicide. A spokeswoman for the Coroner’s Office said a full autopsy will not be available for several weeks. LeeCee Johnson, with whom Crawford was speaking while in Walmart told WHIO that she heard the police shout at Crawford to get down and then she heard the shots. Johnson said Crawford is the father of her two children and is expecting their third. At Crawford’s funeral on Saturday, Crawford’s aunt, Sharon Brown, said that the family wants to know who is responsible for her nephew’s death. The family also wants to see Walmart’s surveillance video, which may shed more light on the shooting. Brown also questioned Walmart’s policies of allowing customers to pick up a rifle, whether or not it’s a toy.
