Georgia Dialysis Drug Lawyers Continue to Investigate NaturaLyte and Granuflo Injury Claims as Statute of Limitations Approaches

(USGovernment-News.Com, February 25, 2014 ) SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Georgia class action attorneys at The Eichholz Law Firm are continuing their investigation into injury claims associated with the use of Granuflo and NaturaLyte dialysis drugs as the deadline for filing a claim approaches.

In March 2012, NaturaLyte and Granuflo were the subject of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration Class 1 recall. An internal memo from Fresenius Medical Care, the drug’s manufacturer, that uncovered information on the increased risk of heart attack and sudden cardiac death was leaked, and prompted the recall. State statutes of limitation on injuries caused by Granuflo or NaturaLyte will begin to expire in late March 2014, or two years from the date of the FDA recall. In Georgia, product liability injury claims must be filed within two years.

The use of Granuflo and NaturaLyte drugs among dialysis patients increases the risk of cardiopulmonary arrest and sudden cardiac arrest six-fold. According to the FDA recall, inappropriate prescription of these products can lead to elevated serum bicarbonate levels, also known as metabolic alkalosis. Additional side effects include dangerously low blood pressure, reduced potassium levels and death. Following the Fresenius recall, the FDA issued a Safety Communication warning to healthcare professionals regarding the dangers of treating patients with hemodialysis dialysate concentrates containing acetate, acetic acid, or citrate, similar to NaturaLyte and Granuflo.

As lawsuits alleging injuries and wrongful death from these drugs continue to be filed and consolidated, anyone who has been injured or lost a loved one in connection with Granuflo or NaturaLyte is urged to contact The Eichholz Law Firm for a free and confidential consultation to determine what their legal rights are.
