(USGovernment-News.Com, February 24, 2014 ) COVINGTON, Ky – On Feb. 13, 2014 a natural gas explosion in Adair County, Kentucky, destroyed two homes and injured at least two people. Henry D. Acciani, partner at O’Connor, Acciani & Levy urges anyone who has been injured to seek legal counsel to determine if they may be entitled to compensation.
“The situation in Kentucky is unfortunate and our hearts go out to all the families affected by this terrible tragedy. Although the cause of the explosion is not yet known, this is simply a disaster that should have never happened. As the investigation continues we hope that the parties responsible for this tragedy will do what is needed to ensure that it never happens again,” said Acciani.
Around 1 a.m., the underground gas line owned by Columbia Gulf Transmission exploded. According to WLKY News, the explosion was felt for miles which led the county to call a state of emergency. About 20 homes were evacuated and residents whose homes were not affected were permitted to return home by late afternoon. Kentucky State Police shut down state road 76 in Adair County from Baker’s Store to Eastridge Cemetery Road for approximately 24 hours after the incident.
The explosion left a crater 60 feet deep and 50 feet wide with rocks raining down on small cars in the area. It took more than 7 hours for the flames to be controlled. The two homes affected were completely destroyed along with vehicles and barns in the area. Two people were taken to the local hospital, however, they were released shortly after receiving treatment.
State and federal workers are currently en route to Adair County to begin an investigation and determine what caused the explosion. Further information may not be unveiled for a few months.
