(USGovernment-News.Com, January 29, 2014 ) NEW HAVEN, CT—Baxter International Inc. has voluntarily recalled three lots of its premixed sterile injectable parenteral nutrition products Clinimax and Clinimax E from distributors and healthcare centers around the country. The FDA was notified of the recall January 3, 2014.
No adverse events have yet been reported from the defective products, which could cause inflammation at the injection site, artery blockage, and cardiac arrest, among other negative health consequences. According to information published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Baxter customers discovered traces of particulates in the affected products, prompting two lots of Clinimax and one lot of Clinimax E to be recalled. The affected lots were distributed between May 2012 and October 2013 with product codes 2B7729, lot P287045; 2B7717, lot P27588; and 2B7709 lot P285122. Customers were notified and may return the defective products for credit with Baxter.
Parenteral nutritionals are manufactured for use in patients with cancer, hemophilia, kidney disease, immune disorders and a number of other medical conditions as a nutritional supplement with a high caloric content. If any consumers experience side effects such as local irritation at the site of injection, allergic reactions or inflammation of tissue and organs, they have been advised to contact their healthcare provider immediately to discover whether the parenteral nutrition products came from the defective lots.
