A long standing and sensitive border dispute with neighboring Tanzania resurfaced, and the Malawi President exhibited rare diplomatic skills while attempting to negotiate an agreement between the two nations. President Banda has gained the respect of other world leaders and was appointed Chairman of the Southern African Development Community in August. She also received a standing ovation after delivering an eloquent eulogy at the funeral of Nelson Mandela.
