This year, firms included in The U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” annual rankings are recognized for professional excellence with outstanding rankings from clients, lawyers, peer reviews, information provided by the law firms, and a new Law Firm Leaders Survey. Receiving such a ranking requires a combination of quality law practice and a certain degree of legal ability.
Best Lawyers® was founded in 1981 and is the oldest lawyer-rating publication in the legal profession. It is considered the gold standard for accuracy and integrity. Over the years, Best Lawyers has gained the respect of the profession, media, and public as the most reliable and unbiased source of legal referrals.
To create the 2014 “Best Law Firms” list, clients were asked to give their opinion on the firm’s responsiveness, expertise, civility, cost effectiveness, understanding of a business, and whether the client would refer another client to the firm, while lawyers were asked the same series of questions as well as; if they considered the firm to be a worthy competitor. Individual leading lawyers defined by Best Lawyers were also asked to become involved in a recent survey.
This data would be joined to give the overall “Best Law Firms” score for each specific firm. This data would be compared to other firms within the metropolitan area, in addition to the national level. The first tier in each metropolitan area includes the highest ranking firms, while the tier system continues from there.
