Joyce Banda Humanitarian Fights For WomenÂ’s Rights

(USGovernment-News.Com, December 05, 2013 ) Lilongwe, Malawi – Although Joyce Banda became the first female president of Malawi almost two years ago when her predecessor, Bingu wa Mutharika, died in office, she is continuing the struggle for the abused women of her nation which she began years ago. President Banda is all too closely familiar with the problems facing the women of her country as she was the victim of abuse during her first marriage. Throughout her political career she has faced much opposition from male politicians, some of whom have used derogatory personal attacks upon her. Yet, her passion, intelligence, and drive have been recognized by even her strongest adversaries, and respect for abilities is almost universal.
She has captured the hearts and imagination of sympathetic people throughout the world. She has alternatively been described as having a steel backbone, and as a humanitarian. She often makes quotations such as: “I sat down in 1989 and I made up my mind at that point that I was going to spend the rest of my life assisting women and youth to gain social and political empowerment through business and education. I convinced myself economic empowerment of women was going to be key, especially in a country like this where most women didn't go to school”.
Because of her efforts, the Joyce Banda Foundation was created to alleviate the suffering of the poor in Malawi. To understand the philosophy of Joyce Banda, follow her on Twitter: https://twitter.com/JoyceBandaMW
