Authorities Advise Aluminum Cases For RFID Cards

RFID explaination and security recommendations

(USGovernment-News.Com, November 27, 2013 ) Grass Valley, California -- The dramatic rise in the number of cases of identity theft from credit cards has caused
Pinellas County Sheriff Detective Korey Diener to explain how easily identity theft is accomplished, "If you have someone with a reader, they can walk past you at the mall or a sporting event, and they can obtain all of your information out of your wallet. It'll give them expiration date, card number, your name and obviously they're on their way." Diener's statement is based on the increasing concern regarding information stealing in the area of Tampa.

Diener's statement can be proven true and accurate as the technological innovation in Radio Frequency Identification stores various information in a card, or passport, through a tiny chip. These information chips are used for different purposes which include, but are not limited to, transactions in banks, trains, hospitals, and more, even as official passes in schools and buildings.

Given the advantages of RFIDs, the demand for it also increases in the market. Researchers at IDTechEx, an independent market research and business intelligence firm on emerging technologies, say that usage of RFID cards will reach $7.88 billion this year which is definitely up against the $6.98 billion figure in 2012. Furthermore, the numbers are expected to boom to $23.4 billion in 2020.

With this increasing number of RFID products to be released, authorities also see a growing number of identity theft in the country. As government prepares to fully fight this crime, experts and authorities recommend the public to keep their RFID cards in safe cases, or wrap them in aluminum.
