Holiday Hazards: The Edwards Law Firm Shares Safety Tips for the Upcoming Holiday Season

(USGovernment-News.Com, November 23, 2013 ) TULSA, OKLA. – According to USA Today, there were 431 people killed on Thanksgiving Day alone in 2010, while Thanksgiving week remains to be one of the deadliest weeks for highway travel across the nation. Unfortunately, this is not the only week which has an increased risk of dangers, the entire season from Thanksgiving to New Years is extremely dangerous.

Not only does the weather change from season to season it may also change while we are driving. This change may cause roads to become slick, which can result in not only auto accidents, but also slip and fall accidents. These accidents are common around malls where ice is present, along with inside malls near entry ways.

During this time of the year drunk driving accidents are more common. Many times people will celebrate the holidays with family members, while having too much to drink, then proceed to drive home. It is highly advised to plan ahead in such situations, whether it be getting a cab, a hotel, designating a sober driver, or staying at your family member’s house; people should never drink and drive.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, “this time period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day includes some of the most dangerous days for drunk driving deaths, and the numbers are getting worse in recent years – as annual drunk driving deaths have decreased, there has been an increase in the proportion of drunk driving deaths around the holidays.”

The Tulsa car accident attorneys at The Edwards Law Firm know the great threat the holiday season possesses to drivers. While most holiday festivities are safe; car accidents, slip and fall injuries, house fires, and other injuries may occur if we are not prepared.
