(USGovernment-News.Com, November 23, 2013 ) PHOENIX, AZ – According to the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, the total number of Pradaxa lawsuits has increased from 1,643 reported by October, 17 to the 1,748 reported by November 18th; with an increase of over six percent in a month.
Pradaxa is a blood thinner used to prevent strokes and blood clots in patients with atrial fibrillation. It was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2010, while health care professionals disagree on whether or not it actually increases the risks of internal bleeding in patients.
According to the FDA, Pradaxa is no more dangerous that the blood thinner Warfarin, yet the Institute for Safe Medication Practices has warned patients that they may have five times the increase of dyeing from internal bleeding from Pradaxa than Warfarin.
During a Dutch study performed earlier this year, they found that patients taking blood thinners, like Pradaxa, could have a 55 percent increased chance to suffer from internal bleeding.
As a result of the great number of patients filing for a Pradaxa lawsuit in relation to internal bleeding, these cases have been consolidated into a federal multidistrict litigation court in the state of Illinois under the MDL Number 2385, IN RE: Pradaxa Product Liability Litigation, Southern District of Illinois.
