(USGovernment-News.Com, September 17, 2013 ) Miami Gardens, Fl – Since January 2013 the number of DUI arrests in Miami Beach is less than half the number of all reported arrests in 2012. Statistics from the Miami-Dade courts show that so far 221 persons have been arrested for driving under the influence. In 2011 the total number of arrests was 492, a 62 percent decrease since 2009.
Unfortunately the number of collisions has remained level. Such information has led some to believe that the decrease in arrests is nothing to be impressed about. According to the city’s police union less training and resources has led to the decrease while the police department admits that officers often fore-go DUI arrests in order to target other crimes.
Furthermore drunken driving arrests by the Florida Highway Patrol have increased in recent years and the Miami-Dade Police Department is on pace to arrest a record 1,800 drunk drivers by the end of this year.
Statistics from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that the number of alcohol-related accidents did drop between 2007 and 2010, however the number then increased by more than 11 percent in 2011. In Broward County the number of alcohol-related crashes has continued on a downward trend and has decreased by about 34 percent since 2007.
