(USGovernment-News.Com, September 14, 2013 ) Clinton, S.C – Mold has been found in Barron, Georgia and Grotnes halls at Presbyterian College. School officials and the mold clean-up company working with the college are blaming the problem on the recent weather saying the buildings couldn’t handle the record hot, humid, and rainy summer.
The affected dorm rooms will be cleaned from top to bottom and the clean-up on each floor will last between 3 and 5 days. Students will be displaced to another location on campus while clean-up is completed. Students will be moved one hallway at a time, so some students will remain in the affected halls for quite some time. It is estimated that the process will not be completed until Christmas break.
College officials have not received any reports of students becoming ill due to the mold. However, allergic reactions can happen immediately or over a period of time after exposure.
Some common signs and symptoms of mold exposure include sneezing, runny nose, coughing, wheezing, eye and skin irritation, and lung irritation. Those with compromised immune systems may suffer from asthma attacks and more severe symptoms. School officials are asking students whose immune systems are compromised to talk with the school about their situation and homing alternatives.
