(USGovernment-News.Com, July 31, 2013 ) WEST PALM BEACH, FL— A series of enormous explosions at a Tavares, Florida propane plant sent a surge of flames 200 feet into the air the night of Monday, July 29, and four of the eight workers who were injured are now listed in critical condition.
Reportedly, repairs were being done to the Blue Rhino plant’s propane tanks in addition to being painted when sparks ignited an enormous fireball, severely burning four workers who were in the tanks’ immediate vicinity. A maintenance worker at the plant who only heard the blast from inside reported that the victims’ injuries were gruesome enough to question how easy their recovery will be.
At the time of the report, there were no definitive answers regarding the cause of the explosion, but workers have speculated that it may have been the result of a combination of human error and poor safety and maintenance practices. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration had previously fined the same plant when an air hose was found to be missing a required component in 2011.
