(USGovernment-News.Com, July 23, 2013 ) West Palm Beach, FL A recent study has found that more children than ever before are being injured due to falling television sets. The study found that almost 200,000 children have become injured in the last 20 years as a result.
Fortunately, there have been no serious injuries and only 2.6 percent of these injuries required hospital admission.
Researchers have indicated that in most instances these children experience head and neck wounds, and that most of the children are under the age of five years old.
In 2011, a total of 12,300 children received treatment for these types of injuries, when compared to the 5,455 in 1990. This large increase is likely due to the location of television sets, along with the type of television set.
As flat screen TVs are becoming more common, older bulky television sets are being moved to dressers and unstable furniture, which can cause them to fall easier. Whereas, newer and lighter television sets are easier to tip over when they are in reach of children.
