The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of Novak Street, where officers were responding to a home alarm. One of the officers approached a side door that was ajar when three dogs rushed aggressively toward the officer, who suffered bites from at least two of the dogs in an animal attack that landed the officer in Forsyth Hospital.
One of the dogs, a pit bull, was fatally shot during the incident, and the other two seized by animal control because of aggressive behavior. The animals’ owner was unable to produce vaccination records and was cited for violating the leash law.
Dog bite injuries are quite common, and in some cases can lead to permanent damage and even death. Pet owners have a responsibility to prevent their animal from harming others.
