(USGovernment-News.Com, July 19, 2013 ) BOYNTON BEACH, FL – Gordon & Doner, a personal injury law firm that frequently represents clients in veterans benefits cases, is proud to support the newly planned 9/11 memorial to be constructed in Veterans Park. Three members of the Boynton Beach Veterans Advisory Commission announced yesterday that the initially opposed monument was approved and will hopefully be completed in time for the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks this Sept. 11.
The memorial was initially opposed by veterans who believe the park’s monuments should only honor service men and women who were killed or missing in action; however, those who initially voted against the statue changed their minds upon seeing a sketch of the project.
“We didn’t realize how beautiful it was until two days ago,” said veteran Tom Keiser, who designed the existing memorials in the park, located at 411 N. Federal Highway.
Funds to construct the 9/11 monument are being raised by local firefighters, who are a mere $500 short of their $5,500 goal. The monument is designed as a 4-foot granite slab that incorporates a 40-pound, 12-by-14 inch piece of steel from the World Trade Center, the second of two pieces given to the city from the fallen New York City landmark. The memorial will be situated a few feet behind and between existing memorials for the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
