Middlesex County Injury Lawyers Ronald Spevack Supports Efforts to Improve Traumatic Brain Injury Imaging Technology

(USGovernment-News.Com, June 29, 2013 ) Iselin, NJ–Middlesex County injury attorney Ronald Spevack was amongst those in support of a new imaging technique that could help predict long-term damage in patients with traumatic brain injury.

Pratik Mukherjee, MD, PhD was the senior author of a study that led to the discovery of the new technique. He and his fellow authors used a brain mapping technique known as applied rapid automated resting state magnetoencephalography (MEG) imaging to record brain activity via magnetic fields produced by natural electrical currents in the brain. Through their new application of this technique, they were able to discover signs of abnormal brain activity persisting years after a person suffered even a mild form of traumatic brain injury.

“Traditional magnetic resonance imaging, known as an MRI, uses magnetic field and radio wave energy to provide a static image of the internal structures of the body,” Spevack said of the technology. “With this new MEG technique, the imaging provides much richer information than your typical MRI. Now the brain activity images recorded by MEG can be used to create a template of normal brain function that can be compared to the brain activity of a person who has suffered a head injury. This makes it much it easier to detect specific abnormalities that could predict long-term brain damage in individuals. It could be a huge breakthrough for both those who treat traumatic brain injuries and those who represent victims of TBI in court and rely on technology to prove the extent of an injury.”

The Spevack Law Firm was founded by I. Oscar Spevack in 1928. The firm was built on a foundation of successfully taking on insurance companies, large corporate giants and government agencies, and that tradition continues to this day under the stewardship of Oscar’s son Ronald Spevack and grandson David Spevack. Ronald Spevack has over 40 years of experience as a trial lawyer in practice areas such as personal injury and employment law, trying his first formal case in 1965 and over 500 cases since then.
