(USGovernment-News.Com, June 28, 2013 ) Ardmore, OK – As summer heats up many more boaters will be heading to Lake Murray to enjoy some fun in the sun including some who may choose to drive under the influence. Between June 28th and June 30th the Oklahoma Highway Patrol marine enforcement section will be on the lookout for intoxicated boaters.
Approximately 6 to 8 marine troopers and an additional 6 to 8 land troopers will be making enforcement stops throughout the weekend. By law a boat must have enough life jackets for each person on board and the driver must be sober.
According to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) approximately one-third of all recreational boating fatalities is alcohol-related. It is estimated that a boat operator with a .10 percent blood alcohol concentration is ten times more likely to die in a boating accident than a sober boater.
Furthermore, the USCG reports that in 2012 of all the alcohol-related boating accidents in Oklahoma all of them resulted in injuries and nearly half resulted in the death of one person.
If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident due to an intoxicated boater, the victim may be entitled to compensation for property damage, medical bills, lost wages, and more. An experienced Ardmore personal injury attorney can help you determine if you may be eligible to make a claim against the negligent individual who caused your injuries.
