(USGovernment-News.Com, June 20, 2013 ) Fayetteville, NC – An overnight crash early Wednesday morning in Fayetteville has left two residents dead and three more injured. Around 1:30a.m. on Shaw Mill Road near Meharry Drive two vehicles collided after one veered onto oncoming traffic.
According to authorities a 2004 Jeep Cherokee was driving east on Shaw Mill Road when it crossed the center lane and struck a Volkswagen. The Jeep continued onto oncoming traffic and clipped a vehicle headed west on Shaw Mill Road. Although the driver tried to avoid the oncoming SUV it was still impacted on an angle which caused the small car to rollover.
The two people inside the flipped vehicle were airlifted to a local area hospital and listed under critical condition, nonetheless one passed away due to their injuries. The driver of the Jeep was dead on the scene. The other persons in the Volkswagen were taken to another hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In 2011 more than 1,100 fatal car crashes were reported throughout North Carolina and 693 were due to lane departure. Overall, lane departure accidents accounted for nearly 25% of all car accidents in North Carolina.
