Motorcyclist Killed in Oklahoma City Accident Reports The Edwards Law Firm

(USGovernment-News.Com, June 14, 2013 ) Oklahoma City, OK – Wednesday evening 56-year-old Rickey Ford died in a motorcycle wreck in Le Flore County. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) Ford was driving his motorcycle north on U.S 59 when a southbound pick-up truck making a left turn struck his bike.

Ford was rushed to the Muskogee Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the pick-up, Colton Gregerson, 21, was not injured. Ford was ejected from his motorcycle 28 feet and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident the OHP reported.

In 2011 more than 1,700 motorcycle crashes were recorded through the state of Oklahoma, of which 5% were fatal.

Oklahoma has a partial helmet law which requires riders under the age of 17 to wear helmets while drivers over the age of 18 are not required by law to wear this important piece of motorcycle safety equipment. According to the Center for Disease Control universal helmet laws, which require all riders and passengers to wear a helmet, have saved an immense amount of lives. It is estimated that helmet use prevents 37% of all motorcycle crash deaths and 41% of motorcycle passenger crash deaths.

The Edwards Law Firm would like to remind motorcyclists about the importance of using a helmet along with reminding other motorists to always watch for motorcyles. If you or a loved one has been injured in a motorcycle accident by a careless driver, the victim may be entitled to compensation for property damage, medical expenses, lost wages and more.
