(USGovernment-News.Com, June 08, 2013 ) Provo, UT -- Daniel S. Goldberg, a law professor at the University of Maryland likes to chat with faculty before starting on classes. He often can be seen holding his ceramic coffee mug that bears the logo of East Coast Coffee Co.
The company is not his favorite coffee company or distributor, in fact, East Coast Coffee does not exist. Goldberg's student created it for his course for the business planning portion of his courses. The students are asked by Goldberg to take the fictional company through the rigors of a simulated experience of developing a startup company. The students must consider aspects of the company from all angles, down to the very designs that would be on the coffee mug Goldberg utilizes.
The system is set up more like an MBA program, rather than a law school curriculum, and the University of Maryland are happy to admit that fact. The school has looked to create a revamped business law program that takes new approaches to understanding the dynamic world of business and law.
The concept for change came directly from the students themselves. The school had a business law program, but felt it was no longer properly preparing students for the real-life rigors of the world of business law. Preparing students for possible jobs and situation they will encounter will, after all, the main charge of any University.
The University of Baltimore has followed in similar footsteps as the University of Maryland. Both institutions are hoping to turn around the falling off of admission total in seen over the last handful of years.
By creating the new types of curriculum, which focus on real-world scenarios and practical concepts of skill cultivation, the Universities hope to both entice students to enter the institutions. They also hope to help those already attending to feel they are being given a leg up on basic curriculum.
