Security Safes Releases New Infographic on UK Home Protection

(USGovernment-News.Com, June 02, 2013 ) England, UK -- Security Safes recently launched a new infographic on UK home protection. With timely facts and statistics, this informative piece is designed to help homeowners prevent burglaries and theft. According to the infographic, there are over 1 million burglaries and attempted break-ins in the UK each year. In fact, a home is burglarized every 37 seconds in Great Britain.

In the past year alone, 13% of homes were burgled twice. An additional 7% of homes were burgled three times, while burglaries with occupants in the house rose by 14%. From 1981 to 1993, burglaries increased by 137% in the UK. While any residential property is susceptible to burglaries or invasion, there are certain houses that are always likely to be ‘theft’ targets. This includes homes without visible signs of security, lighting, or alarm bell boxes.

Based on the infographic, households burgled within the past 4 years are more than 2X as likely to be burgled again. While most burglaries are not pre-planned, home invaders are always on the look for certain signs and weaknesses. This includes doors that are ajar, along with open windows and noticeable valuables. According to British Crime Survey statistics, however, security devices are effective in reducing the risk of burglary. This includes intruder alarms, along with surveillance equipment and other protective measures.

According to the infographic, 88% of burglars are male. While 6% of burglars are female, the same percentage of burglaries are committed by males and females together. The most likely age of burglars in the UK is 16-24. Of these, about 16% are of school age. The infographic also highlights the most popular ways burglars can enter your home or property. While 20% get in through unlocked doors and windows, 70% of burglars simply come in through the main door.

There are also several things that happen during a burglary. This includes a number of emotional responses from victims. From anger and shock to fear and vulnerability, victims simply experience a range of emotions and feelings. After all, being burglarized is an experience that remains with victims for a long time.
