(USGovernment-News.Com, May 31, 2013 ) Phoenix, AZ – According to Arizona authorities 559 persons were arrested over Memorial Day weekend on suspicion of drunk driving.
More than 13,000 traffic stops were conducted throughout the state. Compared to 2012 the number of arrests actually grew by 2 percent. On average the blood alcohol content of drivers arrested was .153 which is the highest average BAC recorded during a Memorial Day weekend since 2009.
Task force officers made nearly 500 misdemeanor DUI arrests and 60 aggravated DUI arrests. More than 300 persons were also cited for underage drinking.
More than 5 percent of all reported car accidents in 2011 were caused by drivers who had been drinking and more than 230 were fatal collisions. The economic loss of alcohol-related crashes in 2011 was more than $508 million.
