(USGovernment-News.Com, May 16, 2013 ) SAVANNAH, GA – State Farm released data yesterday on dog bite claims the insurance company handled throughout the U.S. in 2012. Over $108 million was paid out last year, and among the states with the highest number of paid claims, Georgia came in 9th, with $3.3 million paid on 121 claims.
State Farm’s payout was a mere 22% of the total amount of paid dog bite claims in 2012, which, according to the Insurance Information Institute, came to a whopping $489 million. On average, over 4.7 million Americans suffer from wounds inflicted by dogs each year, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Many of the types of injuries inflicted in canine attacks end in fatality.
The recent unfortunate and untimely deaths of 2 Georgia children at the hands of canine companions had brought this issue to light prior to the data released by State Farm. The attorneys at Eichholz Law Firm offer their condolences to the College Park and Ellabell families that recently lost their little ones and offers free consultations to victims of dog bites and grieving loved ones.
