(USGovernment-News.Com, May 11, 2013 ) Savannah, GA – Parents and residents are speaking out about the intersection at Whitemarsh Island Road and Mapmaker Lane after a local student was hit by a pick-up truck. Ryan Eston, 14, was crossing the street from the South and was injured by a grey Ford ranger heading west on the road. Eston is in stable condition after being transported to Memorial University Medical Center.
Residents are worried as they often see drivers speeding down the road and using it as a shortcut between Johnny Mercer Avenue and Highway 80. Some are also using the road as a drop-off and pick-up zone for their children. There are three schools in the area and hundreds of students walk to and from their homes each day although there are no sidewalks available.
Locals are hoping that the school board will do something to control the situation such as installing speed bumps or barring parents from dropping their children off at the intersection. Until then, parents should try to drop their children off at a safer location and teach them the importance of looking both ways before crossing the road.
