(USGovernment-News.Com, May 10, 2013 ) Tulsa, OK – As the story of a rogue oral surgeon who exposed patients to hepatitis and HIV continues to unravel, more and more former clients are receiving positive diagnoses. W. Scott Harrington practiced dentistry for more than 36 years before he voluntarily surrendered his license on March 20th, 2013. Earlier in the month the Oklahoma Health Department visited Harrington’s practice and found multiple violations including many related to unsanitary practices.
As stated in the statement of complaint to the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry violations included incomplete medical logs, disorganized and unlocked medical cabinets, and expired medication including one vial that was nearly two decades old. Additionally there are allegations that some medical equipment was reused on more than one patient.
According to reports Harrington may have exposed more than 7,000 patients since 2007 to these diseases. So far more than 3,700 former patients have been tested at county health departments and 70 have tested positive for Hepatitis C, 4 tested positive for Hepatitis B, and 3 tested positive for HIV.
The investigation is ongoing and Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris said in a statement the case will be reviewed for potential criminal charges.
