Ride the Wave- Cochran Firm Reports in MobileÂ’s Wave Transit

(USGovernment-News.Com, May 09, 2013 ) Dothan, AL -- Mobile’s Wave Transit Systems seeks to provide safe, reliable, cost-efficient public transportation for their customers and the community for which they serve. Individuals with a physical or functional disability which limits their capacity to use accessible fixed route public transportation may be eligible for demand-response transportation services. Through the Brokered Transportation Department, Wave Transit is able to offer two programs for individuals with disabilities, Mobility Assistance and Access-A-Ride.

The Mobility Assistance Program (M.A.P.) is a special curb to curb transportation service for qualified individuals with disabilities. The cost is $2.50 per trip and reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the trip. Tickets can be purchased at the GM&O Transportation Center as well as the Operations Office.

The Access-A-Ride program is similar to the MAP program, however the purchase of a coupon book is required and reservations can be made 2 hours in advance of the trip. Coupon booklets can be purchased from the GM&O Transportation Center or Operations building for $25.00.

To apply for the Mobility Assistance Program or the Access-A-Ride program, individuals must complete the following steps:
Step 1: Complete the Wave Transit ADA Transportation application form. Applications are available by calling the Wave Transit MAP department at (251) 344-5656.

Step 2: Answer all application questions accurately. Specify if you cannot use the regular fixed route bus service due to your disability and if a personal care attendant will be accompanying you. If your disability is temporary, please indicate the period of time in which the service will be needed.

Step 3: Have a qualified licensed professional complete the Verification of Eligibility Sections. The qualified professional MUST provide their board certification license number. There are no exceptions.

Step 4: Submit the application to the Wave Transit System. Applications must be mailed or hand delivered to The Wave Transit System at 1224 West I-65 S. Service Road, Mobile, AL 36609. No fax copies will be accepted. Once the application is submitted it will take up to twenty-one (21) working days to process. The Wave Transit System will notify you of the results of your application by mail.

The Wave Transit System also offers reduced fixed route fares for qualified individuals. A Wave Transit ID card is required for any half-fare service (Disabled, Medicaid & Senior) and students. ID’s can be obtained at the GM&O Transportation center and the Operations building.

To learn more about the programs offered through Wave Transit or to determine eligibility for services, one can contact Wave Transit by calling (251) 344-5656 or visiting the Wave’s website at www.wavetransit.com.
