(USGovernment-News.Com, May 04, 2013 ) PHOENIX AZ – Police departments around the Phoenix area are preparing for the Cinco de Mayo festivities this weekend. Police will be focusing on reducing the number of underage drinking and driving under the influence by setting up check-points and sending out more patrols.
The primary focus is on underage drinkers and young citizens driving under the influence, as the primary focus is to catch those individuals before it gets too late and they cause more severe accidents down the road. These stations will be set up around the Arizona State University campus near intersections where there are a lot of bars, a lot of drinking, and a lot of driving.
Police advise that if you are celebrating Cinco de Mayo over the weekend to schedule plans ahead of time and avoid drinking and driving and under-age drinking at all costs. There are many alternative options on campus such as; taxi cabs, public transportation, or designating a sober driver.
Throughout Tempe there were 2,000 DUI arrests in 2012 and 2,100 in 2011. These numbers clearly demonstrate the large amount of individuals who make the decision to drink and drive and suffer the consequences.
