(USGovernment-News.Com, May 02, 2013 ) Knoxville, TN The League of American Bicyclists recently reported that Tennessee is the second most bicycle friendly state in the south. It has increased from 26th in the nation in 2012 to 17th in the nation in 2013.
This increase is largely attributed to the addition of bike lanes being created across the state each year. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has dedicated funding to improve the infrastructure of these routes, education of safe biking, new biking facilities, creation of biker friendly laws, and the promotion of cycling.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner said The network of bike lanes across the state is growing each and every year and we will continue to dedicate funding for important programs such as Safe Routes to School.
Throughout the nation, around 52,000 bicyclists were injured after being struck by an automobile in 2010. As a result, many states are demanding stricter penalties against these negligent drivers and also creating safer routes for bikers. Here in Tennessee, this is an ongoing process which has had tons of success in recent years.
