As a result, hospitalizations and poison centers across America have seen a drastic increase in visits and phone calls. The reason; ingesting a large amount of cinnamon can cause choking, throat irritations, breathing trouble, and in some cases the lungs to collapse.
Over the last year the American Association of Poison Control Centers has received an increase from 51 calls in 2011 to a shocking 222 calls in 2012. Additionally, teens that suffer from respiratory conditions and asthma are put at an even greater risk of having trouble breathing or having a shortness of breath.
