(USGovernment-News.Com, April 13, 2013 ) Scottsdale, AZ – Arizona Bike Week kicked off earlier this month and approximately 60,000 people are expected to join the festivities that will continue through the weekend.
Although a majority of attendees are locals, drivers should be alert of additional motorcycles on the road. Approximately five charity rides are scheduled for the weekend and thousands of motorcycles will take to the roads to raise money for charity.
Scottsdale police do not expect any serious incidents but are urging fellow motorists to be on alert for motorcycle riders and the caravans of bikers on charity rides.
In 2011 the Arizona Department of Transportation recorded nearly 3,000 motorcycle accidents, 2.9 percent of which were fatal. The number of fatal motorcycle accidents in Arizona increased between 2010 and 2011 along with the number of motorcycles registered throughout the state.
