(USGovernment-News.Com, April 09, 2013 ) Birmingham, AL – This morning many of us may have noticed our commute was much longer than usual as phase two of a 90 day improvement project began at midnight.
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 from exit 130 to 136 will be closing for around 90 days, while they could be closed up to Thanksgiving. It is reported that road conditions were at the end of their life as the concrete was beginning to deteriorate.
Contractors working on this project have been given a penalty and reward clause in hopes of completing the project on time. For every day before the agreed upon completion date, they will receive $35,000, while there is also a penalty for each day behind schedule.
ALDOT workers have begun construction at midnight on Monday and ask that driver remain patient during the first couple of days as they work out the routes.
